JOERILLA LLC. / STORY
A life built from awareness.
Joerilla Drums is a multidisciplinary artist, creative director, cultural documentarian, and founder of JOERILLA LLC, based in Spring Hill, Tennessee.
The Archive
Born in Pontiac, Michigan, Joerilla's creative path started before there was language for it.
Before the studio. Before the brand. Before JOERILLA LLC.
There was a boombox, a tape recorder, skits, comedy raps, rhythm, jokes, noise, and a young mind paying attention. The tools were simple, but the instinct was already there: catch the idea before it disappeared.
After moving to Spring Hill, Tennessee in 1990, that instinct kept growing. DJing became mixtapes. Mixtapes became production. Production became video, audio engineering, photography, design, and documentation.
Each skill opened the door to another. What looked like scattered interests from the outside was really skill stacking: sound, image, rhythm, timing, editing, design, marketing, and story building on each other until they became one language.
It was never just about learning different skills. It was about learning how to see.
In high school, Joerilla was already watching differently. He noticed the energy in the room, the jokes in the hallway, the music people carried, the style, the movement, and the small moments most people walked past without thinking twice. Using VCR-to-VCR editing, a tape player, and a Radio Shack audio/video mixer, he turned those moments into tapes and sold more than 30 copies to classmates.
That was the beginning of the archive. Not because anyone asked for it. Because the signal was there.
That same awareness moved with him into Nashville's Hip-Hop and streetwear scene. Joerilla's raw video work, photography, design, and gonzo-style documentation came from being inside the moment, not outside looking in. Through Concrete Magazine, Phatkaps, and the wider Nashville creative community, he documented artists, brands, rooms, releases, conversations, and cultural shifts as they were happening.
The work was fast, instinctive, and close to the ground. But underneath it was something deeper: the ability to recognize when a moment mattered.
In 2012, while filming for Jeff Staple and Bun B's 1-to-1 interview, Joerilla met Jeff Staple. That meeting became a creative and spiritual turning point. It connected years of streetwear, symbolism, community, design, collecting, and storytelling to a larger purpose.
His connection to Staple Pigeon grew into years of archival work, community building, brand storytelling, and eventually involvement with STAPLEVERSE as part of the core team.
Today, JOERILLA LLC brings the whole journey into one creative house.
What began with drum programming, mixtapes, cameras, flyers, edits, recordings, and raw documentation has become a broader practice built around awareness: creative direction, branding, design, photography, video, marketing, visual media, and cultural storytelling.
The work moves between street culture, spiritual symbolism, music, identity, memory, and brand language.
That same awareness is what JOERILLA LLC brings to every brand, artist, business, or idea: finding the story already living inside it, shaping the language around it, and turning it into visuals, campaigns, content, and moments people can feel.
But the center has never changed.
Every idea carries a signal.
Awareness makes it visible.
